Emma Clemens and her family were long time members of Leesburg Presbyterian Church.  Emma Clemens  taught school in the area and led one of the circles for many years.  Because of Emma Clemens service to this church and the community, a group of women of the church suggested a circle be named in Emma's honor and service.  It is told that when Emma was approached regarding this acknowledgement, she said "It is nice to get your kudos while your still alive!"  Thus the name Emma Clemens Circle.
